Joel is a co-founder and Director of HASH.
Prior to HASH, alongside Jeff Atwood, Joel co-founded Stack Overflow, which
he served as the CEO of from 2008-2019, prior to its acquisition by Prosus for
$1.8bn. Joel also invented and co-founded Trello, which he served as the
Chairman of from 2014 to 2017 until its sale to Atlassian for $425m. In 2000,
Joel founded Fog Creek Software, which later became Glitch and which was
subsequently acquired by Fastly. HASH is Joel's fourth business.
Joel is the author of the popular Joel on Software blog, served as a
paratrooper in the Israeli army, graduated from Yale University in 1991, and
spent time on the Excel team at Microsoft where he was the program manager
responsible for the launch of VBA in Excel 5.0. He is the author of four
books, an LED art enthusiast, and devotee of both Barry’s Bootcamp and Burning
Man.
